“Where attention goes, energy flows.” — James Redfield
Hey there Reader,
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about noise.
Not just sound, but the kind of noise that comes at us every day through our phones, inboxes, newsfeeds, responsibilities, conversations, and worries.
The kind that makes everything feel urgent.
The kind that makes it hard to know what truly deserves our attention and what is simply demanding it.
And lately, there is a lot demanding our attention.
Politics. Technology. Conflict. Change. Division. Uncertainty. Fear. Opinions about everything. Reactions to the reactions. Outrage about the outrage.
It is a lot.
And I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have to stop and ask myself:
What am I allowing to shape my energy?
Because here is what I’m realizing.
We may not be able to control all the noise around us, but we do have some choice in what we amplify.
We amplify things with our attention, our conversations, and what we repeat, repost, react to, complain about, and carry into the rooms we enter.
And that matters.
Because as leaders, parents, friends, business owners, team members, and human beings, we are not just impacted by the energy around us.
We also contribute to it.
That does not mean we ignore what is hard.
You know that is never what I mean when I talk about finding the upside.
Finding the upside is not pretending everything is fine. It is choosing to look honestly at what is happening and asking:
What can I create here?
What can I learn here?
What can I lead differently here?
What can I refuse to feed?
That is where our power is.
Because in a loud world, being intentional becomes a leadership practice.
Choosing hope is a leadership practice.
Choosing truth over drama is a leadership practice.
Choosing curiosity over judgment is a leadership practice.
Choosing calm over chaos is a leadership practice.
And choosing what we amplify may be one of the most important choices we make right now.
So maybe the question is not, “How do I make the noise stop?”
Maybe the better question is:
“What do I want my life, my leadership, and my presence to make louder?”
Something to think about:
What have you been giving your attention to that may be taking more from you than it is giving back?
Take action:
This week, notice what you are amplifying. Pay attention to what you are talking about, scrolling through, reacting to, and carrying with you. Then choose one thing you want to make louder in your life — hope, kindness, courage, truth, joy, action, or peace.
Then, hit reply and tell me: What is one thing you want to amplify more right now?
All the love,
Maria
